New Recording - Uplifting Guitar Hymns

I will be releasing a CD album titled, "Uplifting Guitar Hymns" in early 2022.  There will be a CD Release Concert and Fundraiser for Grace Church on January 30, 2022.  The concert will benefit the Mission and Service programs at Grace Church, via a Free Will Offering and sharing of proceeds from CD sales after the concert.

Uplifting Guitar Hymns: front cover  Uplifting Guitar Hymns: back cover

In late 2020, I began recording (while socially distancing and wearing mask) some of my guitar arrangements of hymns, Spirituals and religious songs with the help of local musician Phil Henry as my audio engineer.  Between September 2020 and May 2021, I recorded 18 hymns at Grace Congregational Church in Rutland, VT.  We recorded in the upstairs room behind the balcony in the Sanctuary.  That room has a high rounded ceiling, which makes for a nice resonant sound for acoustic guitar.

This album features instrumentals and my fingerstyle guitar arrangements of hymns.  In addition, the CD also includes three guest musicians on several hymns: Linda MacFarlane (dulcimer), Anna Pulcer (flute) and Phil Henry (djembe).  I have also included some vocal and harmonica melodies on some tunes for the ending verse / variation.

You can find more details about the music on this CD album, and the January 30 concert on the album website, Uplifting Guitar Hymns.

Lessons - COVID-19 Update

Ron with classical guitar

I have taught music lessons for guitar and harmonica in the Rutland, Vermont area since September 2000.

During the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic period, I hope that you, your family and friends remain safe and healthy.  I am now teaching private guitar lessons via Zoom and Skype web-conferencing.

In September 2019, I had started teaching private guitar lessons at the Godnick Center in Rutland, through the Rutland Recreation Dept.  After having taught some group guitar lessons through Rutland Rec Dept. since 2000, I switched to teaching private lessons.

Early in 2020, once the need for social distancing arose, the Godnick Center closed until further notice.  At that point I switched to teaching online lessons via Zoom and Skype.

I look forward to resuming guitar lessons at the Godnick Center, once it is safe to do so again.  At that point, I intend to continue offering online guitar lessons over Zoom and Skype as well.

Performances - COVID-19 Update

During the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic period, I have participated in some local online open mics via Zoom web-conferencing.  It was a good opportunity to reconnect with folks nearby who were staying safely at home, especially during the colder winter months.  It was fun to hear other local musicians and the see some new and familiar faces in the Zoom audience.  I look forward to being able to play music in-person again at local open mics, as well as other venues like the winter Farmers Market.

Over the past two decades, I have performed instrumental guitar music in the Rutland area, including some services at Grace Congregational Church.  I have also played guitar at the Chaffee Art Center, and the former art gallery known as Arts & Antiques on Center St., during Friday Art Hops or Friday Night Live.  You may also hear me playing guitar and singing at the Rutland Winter Farmers Market at Vermont Farmers Food Center.

You can view my full performance list and song lists, to give you a better idea of my guitar music styles.
